This is a complete flat pedal accelerator conversion kit.  The old throttle linkage design is outdated and needs an upgrade.  The problem in the original design is, as the components start to wear, the accelerator control arm starts to bend out of shape, leading to unpredictable performance.  Many have experienced problems due to this while they were driving.
Not something you want happening while you’re on the road!

The twin-lever action (the original “Box” design) of the X-Celerator “Speed Wheel” is laser cut, formed, and welded together, making a strong, stiff accelerator. This lever design is a vast improvement over the stock component. The X-Celerator lever rides on a CNC-machined, 303 stainless steel polished pivot pin.  This longer pin allows the twin levers in the action to ride on the same stable axis, providing a smooth, effortless feel to the throttle pedal.   The sense of confidence you gain at every acceleration may leave you wondering “Why did I wait so long?”

This X-Celerator (Kit 1) INCLUDES a new cut-to-length accelerator cable ($14 value).  It is a very good idea to replace your bug’s accelerator cable as part of your installation.

NOTE:   We suggest you do a pre-install to adjust the accelerator control arm (by trimming the adjustment tab) before completing the install. To do this, mount the cluster to the tunnel leaving the clutch cable off for now and inserting the pivot pin from the opposite side.  Then hook up the throttle cable to the accelerator lever.  Now you ideally want to have a friend give you a hand for fine tuning.  While he pushes the accelerator pedal all the way down, you can be looking at the carburetor to check the travel for full throttle.  If you are not achieving full travel, you can easily take the pedal lever out and trim off just a bit of the rear adjustment tab (1/16″  at a time, preferably with a dremel tool or file), replace the lever, and have your friend push down the pedal all the way again while you recheck the travel on your carb.  Repeat this until you get full travel on the carb but not too much (which can break cables).  Now is the time to take the cluster out and do a complete installation.
