As you likely know, Classic Bug Parts has the proven solution to the problem with the hook-and-loop design of the old clutch pedal shaft and clutch cable on Classic Volkswagens. The fix is here for your ’52-’57 “Oval” Bugs. On the original part there is constant wear on the clutch pedal shaft hook and on the loop of the cable end, as they pull against each other every time the clutch pedal is pressed in and out. The old hook and loop design is known to break over time. This is a known safety issue that is fully resolved with this upgrade.
This upgrade is a permanent solution that eliminates the old hook-and-loop approach to clutch cable attachment, replacing it with a secure cable connection gliding on a brass bushing over a durable chromoly pin. The new brass bushing works like a bearing for smoother pedal operation.
Installing the clutch cable on this improved design is a snap, just slide the cable on to the locating pin, place the flat washer on, tighten the nylock nut, and slip the pedal assembly back in the tunnel. It’s that easy. Years of testing on the new design show no wear to the clutch pedal shaft cable or locating pin, establishing long term dependability and superior performance.
The OVAL Big Boy’s longer pedal shaft provides more space between pedals for comfort (and bigger feet). This “Oval” Big Boy Clutch Pedal Shaft Upgrade features a new 3/4″ longer 1018 steel clutch pedal shaft (with a sleek centerless-grind finish) providing strong clutch control. The result is surprisingly smooth and reliable clutch pedal action that will perform well for years while providing additional bragging rights.
The longer clutch pedal shaft provides almost 3 inches between the pedals, meaning more room for your feet. You get a clean solution for eliminating the known problems while also placing the clutch pedal directly in front of your foot, making driving and engaging the clutch much more comfortable.
This clutch pedal shaft upgrade works with a STOCK CLUTCH CABLE, which we highly recommend you replace as well, and it can be purchased from Wolfsburg West or another reputable dealer (cable is not included with this kit). The far end of the clutch shaft rides on a new supplied support bracket.

1. NEW centerless ground clutch shaft with tig welded crank arm
and chromoly shoulder bolt
2. NEW 3/4″ aluminum barrel spacer (for extended pedal space)
2. NEW brass bushing, flat washer, and nylock nut
3. NEW adjusted clutch stop bracket, powder coated
4. NEW clutch shaft pedal pin
5. Tube of Super Lube grease
